Texan golfers have at their disposal a bonanza of diverse routes, unique cities, and outstanding golf courses, but every now and then it's inevitable for us to jones a little for coon-ass food, culture, and hospitality. And if you're willing to travel, we know of 12 courses and 216 golf holes in the great state of Louisiana where you can golf, gamble, gorge, and guzzle away until you just can't take it anymore. So fill up the ice chest, spread out the maps, throw the clubs in the back of the truck, put a little 'East Bound and Down' on the radio, and head down the road for your very own Cajun golf adventure
The only problem with Phoenix-area golf, if problem can be the right word for a place with great courses, great weather, great variety and beautiful scenery, is choosing where to start. Because like the endless golf buffet, you could play a different course nearly every day in the so-called Valley of the Sun, and not hardly ever sample the same layout choices twice. Yeah, I know golfing life is tough when you have to decide between challenging courses full of history and scenery, not to mention the average 75 degree wintertime temperatures, but that’s Phoenix golf.
It's important to understand the scene of this funky little beach town on MustangIsland. If possible, head down on a Sunday afternoon as everyone's leaving and take advantage of the mid-week lack of tourists. This is the time to lounge under an umbrella with a cooler and book while creating your own Texas version of a Corona commercial.
When you get bored, challenge yourself (risk your life) by swimming the 400 yards or so to the emerald green deeper waters of the gulf. Or take your mountain bike with mounted rod holder (Roy's Bait & Tackle in Corpus is a must stop on the way down) and cruise the beach looking for bait working in the surf and bikini clad groups of tanning co-eds.
